This pamphlet, "By a Physician", is directed to the Governors of the Foundling Hospital. This is a Doctor's view on the better management of babies between birth and three years. Of course, his views and advice is focused on these babies being abandoned as orphans in London.
Within the text, mothers, doctors, midwives or healers will find a wealth of typical practices that people in the 18th century did with babies and children. Things such as swearing the new born with lard and leaving it on them for a week after.
